The meeting, convened by the Ministry of the Interior (MININT), under the auspices of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) office, will be a new opportunity to strengthen collaboration, the second head of the MININT’s Directorate of Attention to Minors, Colonel Luciana Calixtro, said on Thursday.

Scheduled from September 27 to 29 at Havana’s Palco Hotel, the 4th International Conference on Child Protection will consist of debates and exchange of experiences, and will contribute to building a culture of communication on these issues, she said.

According to Calixtro, the meeting is preceded by three international conferences held in Havana in 2008, 2014 and 2017, attended by 245 specialists and experts from different countries.

On this occasion, the scientific program will be developed in plenary sessions with special interventions, keynote lectures, discussion of papers, panels and round tables, and participants will tour centers specialized in child protection.

Topics such as care for children and adolescents according to Cuba’s new Family Code, prevention of violence, treatment and protection of children and adolescents who are offenders or victims, and the impact of social media, the Internet and the integral formation of minors will be discussed.

This conference is part of the Cuban State’s purpose to guarantee a family and social environment that allows the full development of the new generations in an environment of happiness, love and understanding, as established by the Constitution and the country’s legislative system, as Cuba has signed numerous international conventions on the subject, Calixtro pointed out.
