DPRK focuses on increasing grain production

Pyongyang, Aug 23 (Prensa Latina) Several universities and scientific research centers in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) are preparing the conditions to increase grain yields, KCNA reported on Wednesday.

The Kim Il Sung University distributed more than 10,000 portable semiconductor laser radiators for plants to numerous farms, and applied the advantageous method of fertilizer through irrigation in about 100,000 hectares of crops.

The Kim Chaek University of Technology developed more than 100 electrically driven water treatment devices and sent them to various provinces for the successful cultivation of agricultural crops.

The Institute of Botany of the State Academy of Sciences produced hundreds of tons of natural biological activators.

The Kye Ung Sang Higher Institute of Agriculture in Sariwon supplied farms across the country with hundreds of tons of compound bacteria.

The same Pyongyang campus applied the newly developed abundant cultivation technology to an area of more than 80,000 hectares, which contributed to a good harvest of wheat and barley this year.

Other higher educational institutions and research bodies are working to develop and produce various kinds of fertilizers using domestic raw materials and technologies.

They are also engaged in research tasks such as the development of a new seed disinfectant that will contribute to food self-sufficiency.
