China condemns US arms sale to Taiwan

Beijing, Aug 25 (Prensa Latina) China condemned Friday the United States' support for a new arms sale to Taiwan amid renewed tensions between the two sides of the Strait.

The Chinese Ministry of Defense stressed that this action is “a serious interference in internal affairs” and “an atrocious act that violates the One-China principle.”

According to the military body, the US arms sales threaten the security and welfare of Taiwan compatriots and cross-strait peace and stability.

“Taiwan question is the core of the core interests of China, the political foundation of China-US relations, and the first red line that must not be crossed in China-US relations,” the Ministry stressed.

It called on Washington to honor its pledge not to support the separatists and abandon its military ties with the island.

Amid this scenario, US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo will arrive in China on August 27 to discuss the economic differences between the two nations and ease the deteriorating bilateral relations.
