President of Cuba in Mozambique to strengthen relations

Visita-Mozambique
Maputo, Aug 25 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel arrived in Mozambique to strengthen the ties of friendship and cooperation which unite the two nations.

The Cuban president travelled to Mozambique from South Africa, where he participated in the BRICS Summit on behalf of the Group of 77 plus China, and held meetings with solidarity groups with Cuba.

During his stay in Mozambique, the head of state is expected to meet with the President, Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, with Cuban collaborators who work in the country, representatives of the solidarity movements and Cuban residents.

The visit is taking place next to the 48th anniversary of the establishment of relations between Cuba and Mozambique, on August 27th, 1975, which gives a very special character to this meeting.

The history of cooperation between the two countries is marked by the friendship between the first president of Mozambique Samora Machel and Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, who visited the city of Beira in March 1977.

The ties between both nations have been close ever since.

Numerous Mozambicans have benefited from the cooperation, owing to the contribution of Cuban aid workers in different spheres of economic and social development, as well as the training in Cuba of thousands of young people from Mozambique.
