Santo Domingo, Aug 30 (Prensa Latina) The Dominican National Police is investigating today the circumstances in which an armed group intercepted and shot at a minibus while it was transporting several inmates, and which ended with the escape of one.

Law enforcement authorities reported that the incident took place on the Mella highway, in the municipality of Boca Chica, Santo Domingo province, while the vehicle was transporting convicts from the National Penitentiary of La Victoria, to the Criminal Chamber of the Palace of Justice of San Pedro de Macoris (eastern region).

In the car, property of the General Directorate of Penitentiary Services and Security, were traveling Jony Oscar Charles Juan (Plumita), prosecuted for homicide and drug trafficking; Johnny Alexander Castro (Tutuma), for homicide, and José Enrique Valerion, for domestic violence.

During the aggression, Joel Peralta, driver of the vehicle in which the prisoners were being transported, was injured.

The preliminary report stated that the attackers used a white Mitsubishi truck, in possession of the authorities, and a black Ford pick-up truck, from which they fired multiple shots against the minibus.

Two of the three prisoners escaped, but Castro was abandoned near the aforementioned court, where he went and voluntarily surrendered.

The authorities assured that those responsible for the act and the fugitive from justice Juan (Plumita), who in December 2018 was arrested for murder in the municipality of Guerra, in Santo Domingo, are being sought.
