AMLO, Petro, Arce to honor Allende, condemn 1973 coup

Santiago de Chile, Sep 11 (Prensa Latina) Mexican, Colombian and Bolivian Presidents on Monday praised the legacy of late Chilean President Salvador Allende and strongly condemned the Sept. 11, 1973 coup.

Allende is still ruling by his example, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) posted on X Social Media, while highlighting the ideals of freedom, justice, democracy and sovereignty shared by both peoples.

AMLO paid an official visit to Chile on Sunday to attend –alongside some other presidents at La Moneda Palace – in the tribute to Salvador Allende.

The 1973 coup in Chile was brutal and determined a history of wars, military dictatorships, violence and democratic destruction practically across Latin America, Colombian President Gustavo Petro stressed, while stating the significance of presenting democracy as the only choice for peace-building peace and called for deepening it to guarantee people to be more powerful.

His Bolivian counterpart Luis Arce described the 1973 coup as disastrous and reiterated the commitment of the Bolivian people to democracy.
