Santiago de Compostela, Spain, Sep 15 (Prensa Latina) The CAF-Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean, expressed its solidarity with Cuba in the face of the persistent effects of Hurricane Ian, and announced 250 thousand dollars in humanitarian aid.

During the meeting of the CAF Board of Directors held in Santiago de Compostela, the entity noted that its contribution focuses on contributing to UNICEF actions in the recovery of the provision of water and sanitation, as well as improving hygiene conditions in educational centers and the nutritional status of children and pregnant women in communities of four municipalities in the Cuban province of Pinar del Río.

During the meeting, which precedes the Summit of Ministers of Economy and Finance of the European Union (ECOFIN) and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), the CAF approved operations for 927 million of dollars.

The amount is intended to support energy transition policies in Panama, implement a telemedicine system in El Salvador, and promote road infrastructure, green development, economic reactivation and financial inclusion in Brazil.

The organization also decided to include Honduras and the Dominican Republic as members, which will allow them to have greater access to long-term financial resources, as well as technical cooperation for their sustainable development.

The executive president of CAF, Sergio Díaz Granados, from Colombia, described the bank’s session in Santiago de Compostela as historic as a prelude to the Summit of ministers of the 27 and CELAC. “Latin America and the Caribbean need more than ever strong and coordinated multilateral institutions that are true allies of the socioeconomic development of our countries,” he stressed.
