31st Cine Plaza 2023 Film Festival concludes in Cuba

Havana, Sep 17 (Prensa Latina) The 31st edition of the Cine Plaza 2023 Film Festival concludes in this capital after days devoted to exalt the seventh art and the tribute to the film and cultural work of its first president and founder Tomás Piard.

After evaluating the works made between 2020 and 2023 by children, teenagers and adults, living in the Caribbean island, a jury awarded the Fiction prize in the feature film category to Buscando a Casal, by Jorge Luis Sánchez.

Since September 12, the seventh art occupied spaces such as the Riviera cinema and the Centro Cultural Cinematográfico Fresa y Chocolate, where the feature film La ciudad (2015), the last film directed by Tomás Piard, was screened and a photographic exhibition on his life and work was inaugurated.

The next edition of the Festival will take place from September 12 to 21, 2024 and will be dedicated to Cinema in Music.

Concepción Cala, president of the event, announced the launch of the Sara Gómez National Film Competition “in memoriam”, for women filmmakers, which will be held next year.

The name of this contest was a suggestion of filmmaker Jorge Luis Sánch and’ since then’ its main objective has been to exhibit and take to the communities of Havana’s Plaza de la Revolución municipality the film works that participate in different editions.
