José Martí’s work highlighted in Panamanian province (+Photos)

Panama City, Sep 22 (Prensa Latina) José Martí, Cuba's National Hero, was highlighted in a tribute ceremony at the University of Chiriquí, in western Panama, a diplomatic note said today.

According to the source, Cuban poet Roberto Manzano (Ciego de Avila, 1949) gave a lecture entitled “Martí’s Universality”.

Manzano explained the validity of the thought of the author of the Versos Sencillos and the need to delve into his texts and legacy in order to face today’s challenges.

The cultural act was attended among other personalities by the Vice Minister of Culture, Gabriel González, the Caribbean poet Reyna Esperanza Cruz, the consuls of Mexico, Manuel Molina and Colombia, Johny Parra; as well as the chief of the Ngábe Bugle Congress, Celestino Gallardo.

The visit to the center of higher studies in Chiriqui, said the commercial representative of the Cuban embassy in Panama, Rafael Batista, also served to discuss exchange opportunities with professors and students of tourism career and with the rector of the Autonomous University of Indigenous Peoples, Demetrio Santamaría.

In each of the meetings, with an active participation of members of the National Coordinator of Solidarity with Cuba, Chiriqui chapter, the parties reiterated the brotherhood that unites both peoples.
