Angola’s voice at UN makes headlines

Joao-Lourenco-onu-2-768x535
Luanda, Sep 23 (Prensa Latina) Angola's voice in the different scenarios of the high-level week of the United Nations (UN) in New York covered headlines during the week that is about to end.

The media paid particular attention to the activities made by President João Lourenço, who arrived in the US city on September 17 after he participated in the G77+China Summit in Cuba.

At the United Nations, the president had an intense agenda that included his speech at the Sustainable Development Goals Summit on Monday, September 18, where he spoke on behalf of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

Lourenço’s words called for global cooperation, solidarity, and collective action to address the complex challenges the world faces today.

We must achieve a more dynamic and committed approach “to strengthen our political commitment and mobilize the will to contribute to progress in areas whose results will have a positive impact to improve the general living conditions of our populations,” he said at that stage.

The head of State also spoke at the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, where he advocated for greater solidarity among nations and defended multilateralism to solve today’s problems and settle international conflicts.

Lourenço denounced the lack of financing as an obstacle, preventing many Global South countries from making progress in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Therefore, he reiterated the call to reform the international financial architecture.
