Uniformed guards preserve site of presidential debate in Ecuador

Quito, Sep 30 (Prensa Latina) Some 200 uniformed men are guarding the surroundings of the television studio where the presidential debate between candidates Luisa Gonzalez, of the Citizen Revolution, and Daniel Noboa, of National Democratic Action, will take place this October 1.

The candidates face-to-face for the Executive seat will take place tomorrow at 19:00 (local time) at the headquarters of the public channel EcuadorTV, in the north of Quito.

The Metropolitan Transit Agency and the National Electoral Council (CNE) informed that Due to the meeting, since last night the surrounding streets have been closed to vehicular traffic so as to guarantee security.

This Saturday, a simulation will take place in which the two participants in the fight will be able to rehearse the format of the debate, in order to avoid setbacks.

The confrontation is considered very important in the current context when some polls show the contenders with a decreasing gap of votes, and so, the encounter could tip the balance toward one of them.

Gonzalez and Noboa will discuss for an hour and a half their proposals on four thematic axes: economy, security, social inclusion and politics.

On October 15, Ecuador will go to the polls to choose the successor of Guillermo Lasso, who anticipated the end of his mandate with the application last May of the cross death, a mechanism through which he dissolved the parliament in the middle of an impeachment process against him.
