The IDF said in a statement that Defense Minister Yoav Gallant approved calling back reserve soldiers and declared an emergency situation in an 80-kilometer radius around Gaza, where more than two million Palestinians live.

Israeli radio reported that warplanes began bombing the territory after the Hamas incursion.

The Wafa news agency confirmed the air raid, noting that the bombs killed at least two people in the Bureij refugee camp.
