Seventy-five years of pointe art admired by Cuba and the world

Havana, Oct 7 (Prensa Latina) Admired in Cuba and all over the world, the National Ballet of Cuba (BNC) is celebrating 75 years with art on stage that rewards its devotion with ovations and applause.

In order to pay tribute to this new anniversary, a Jubilee Season opened on Friday, until October 28, the date of the 75th anniversary, to delight the audience in Havana with attractive performances at the Avellaneda Hall of the National Theater of Cuba.

The company, directed by Viengsay Valdés and declared Cultural Heritage of the Nation, will dress up to play ballet classics performed by Prima Ballerina Assoluta Alicia Alonso and other works by Cuban choreographers.

With the usual majesty, outstanding soloists and prima ballerinas such as Viengsay Valdés, Sadaise Arencibia, Anette Delgado, Grettel Morejón, Dani Hernández, and Yankiel Vázquez will perform those pieces.

After a first evening of emotions, Saturday’s program includes the choreography “Rara Avis,” “Alfonsina,” “Leda and the Swan,” “Dionaea,” and “Majísimo.”

“Rara Avis,” “Leda and the Swan,” “Dionaea and Majísimo, as well as “Rítmicas” and “Cinderella” (Pas de deux),” will be on stage on Sunday, October 8.

From October 12 to 15, ballet enthusiasts would enjoy “Blood Wedding,” a choreography by Antonio Gades and inspired by Federico García Lorca’s work, and “Carmen” in Alberto Alonso’s version.
