At a press conference, the Foreign Ministry confirmed that a unidentified individual broke violently into the certificate room of the Chinese Consulate General in the US city of San Francisco and tried to harm people on site.
“The Consulate General in San Francisco and local police responded in time, the perpetrator was subdued and other situations are still under investigation,” the spokesperson added.
Previously, a Foreign Ministry spokesperson issued a statement claiming that the incident had caused “serious damage” to the building and put people in “serious danger” of being injured or killed.
According to US media reports, a person crashed a vehicle into the Chinese consulate and began to struggle with security guards.
Police responded a few minutes after the incident and shot the attacker in the lobby during a confrontation. He was taken to a local hospital where he died.
