EU suspends aid to Palestine amid conflict

Comision-Europea-CE-500x375
Brussels, Oct 10 (Prensa Latina) Amid Israel's announcement of a total closure of the overpopulated Gaza Strip, in its conflict with HAMAS, the European Union (EU) suspended cooperation projects with Palestine.

Palestine’s main donor, the European Commission, is reviewing the entire 691-million-euro development aid package. All payments will be suspended, European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy Oliver Vargelii said.

All budget proposals, including those for 2023, are postponed until a new decision, the European politician stated.

More than 1,200 people were killed following clashes between the HAMAS resistance movement, based in the blockaded Gaza Strip, and Israeli troops, who are now using aircraft to bomb the area, with more than two million inhabitants.

Palestinian National Authority President Mahmud Abbas called on the international community to help the Palestinian people to obtain their rights and to put pressure on Israeli authorities to force them to stop their crimes.

The time has come to implement the decisions taken at the United Nations, we have had enough promises and delays from the international community regarding the end of the occupation and the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state, he stressed.
