DPRK celebrates anniversary of Workers’ Party of Korea (+Photos)

Pyongyang, Oct 11 (Prensa Latina) The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) celebrated the 78th anniversary of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) with an extensive program of political, cultural and recreational events, the state news agency KCNA reported on Wednesday.

Thousands of people visited the Kumsusan Sun Palace, where the remains of President Kim Il Sung, founder of the political organization that rules the country, and Kim Jong Il, who made notable contributions to its construction and development, rest.

The event was replicated in numerous places nationwide and were associated with the history of the WPK and the struggles for the country’s independence and sovereignty.

One of the most popular sites was the monument complex on Mansu Hill, where there are 229 sculptures, the largest of which are inspired by Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il.

Pyongyang’s International House of Culture hosted the 4th National Festival of Sculptures and Handicrafts, which was dedicated to the founding of the WPK.

Members of the WPK Political Bureau and Central Committee visited the Museum on the History of the Founding of the Party, where they reaffirmed their commitment to the principles and tasks of the organization.

The WPK was founded on October 10, 1949, with the merger of the Workers’ Party of North Korea and the Workers’ Party of South Korea. Its first general secretary was Kim Il Sung.
