Brazil chairs UN meeting to discuss Israeli-Palestinian conflict

Mauro-Vieira
Brasilia, Oct 13 (Prensa Latina) The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, Mauro Vieira, is chairing a meeting of the UN Security Council to discuss the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

The headquarters of the Brazilian presidency reported that the meeting at the United Nations was convened by Brazil to address the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, threats to security and world peace, and escalations of conflicts in the Middle East.

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva appealed to UN Secretary General António Guterres and the international community in defense of Palestinian and Israeli children last Wednesday.

“Let us take advantage of all resources to put an end to the most serious violation of human rights in the Middle East conflict. Children never ought to be taken hostage, no matter where in the world,” Lula wrote on social networks.

He considered that “Hamas needs to release the Israeli children kidnapped from their families. Israel needs to stop the bombing so that Palestinian children and their mothers leave the Gaza Strip across the border with Egypt. There needs to be a minimum of humanity in the madness of war,” he remarked.

The president of the Palestinian National Authority, Mahmud Abbas, called recently on the international community to help the Palestinian people obtain their rights and to press the Tel Aviv authorities into stopping their crimes.
