Osmayda-Hernandez
Santiago de Chile, Oct 13 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban delegate to the ECLAC meeting on women, Osmayda Hernández, highlighted Cuba’s policies for gender equality.

Hernández participated in the Sixty-fifth meeting of the Presiding Officers of the Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean, which took place at the headquarters of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) in Chile.

The delegate reported in an interview with Prensa Latina that Cuban women currently hold 55.7 percent of the seats in Parliament. “In Cuba, we have three autonomies: economic, physical and decision-making,” she said.

She also recalled Cuba´s national program for the advancement of women aimed at promoting their empowerment, and also the protocol for action in situations of discrimination, violence, and harassment in their workplaces.

Cuban women also enjoy sexual and reproductive rights and their integral development and presence in all spheres are guaranteed, she said.

Hernández explained that the meeting addressed issues such as the right to care, the fight against poverty, gender violence and the implementation of policies for the incorporation of women in all sectors.

Ministers and high authorities from the countries of the region and representatives of international organizations, such as UN Women, participated in the event on the 11th and 12th of October.
