Justice suspended Venezuelan opposition primary elections

Caracas, Oct 30 (Prensa Latina) The Supreme Court of Justice of Venezuela today suspended all the stages of the electoral process conducted by the National Primary Elections Commission (CNP), in the opposition elections of October 22.

In a ruling disclosed here, the highest judicial body admitted the appeal for protection against those votes, presented by citizen José Brito, who filed a “contentious electoral appeal with precautionary protection” against the unconstitutional and illegal acts of the above mentioned Commission.

The verdict ordered the CNP to send to the Supreme Court the administrative records, containing the 25 phases that must govern the electoral process, from the call and its constitution as an electoral commission.

This includes the sending of the electoral schedule and its registration, including the certificate of acceptance of the nomination, formulated by the citizen “firmly disqualified for 15 years,” María Corina Machado.

As well as the resignations of citizen Henrique Capriles, “firmly disqualified for 15 years;” Freddy Superlano, “firmly disqualified for seven years, and those of any other citizen who has decided to decline her/his candidacy.

Likewise, the judicial body requested the minutes of the October 22 elections, including those over constituting the polling stations, the voting notebooks and ballots, those of th vote count, and the minutes of regional totalization, final totalization, of adjudication and that of proclamation.

The Supreme Court also demanded that the CNP send a report on the factual and legal aspects, which indicates the mechanism used to safeguard the electoral material and the place designated for this purpose.

The ruling ordered notification to the Attorney General of the Republic, Tarek William Saab, about the multiple and serious complaints related to the primary elections, made by Brito, other representatives of the Public Powers of the Venezuelan State and by politicians.
