Cuba appreciates India’s support in fight against US blockade

Cuba-embajador-Alejandro-Simancas
New Delhi, Nov 7 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Ambassador to India, Alejandro Simancas, reportedly expressed gratitude to the Indian Government and people, for supporting at the United Nations General Assembly, the demand to end the US blockade against Cuba (UNGA).

In an article published in the Financial Express newspaper, Simancas highlighted Cuba’s resounding victory at the UNGA vote on November 2 of the draft resolution about the necessity of ending the economic, commercial, and financial blockade, with 187 countries in favor, including India; two against, the United States and Israel; and one abstention, Ukraine.

In the case of India, we feel overwhelmed with gratitude for the Indian government position expressed in the vote, whose supportive reflection we constantly receive from several organizations and many representatives of the broad Indian society, the Cuban diplomat said.

According to Simancas, who also acts as a concurrent ambassador in Nepal and Bhutan, this result is mainly a declaration of support for reason and justice, the United Nations Charter, and international law.

The diplomat also pointed out that for more than three decades, Washington has continued to ignore the majority of the international community’s demand, to end the blockade, the main objective of which is to depress Cuba economically and thus destroy the constitutional order.

Simancas pointed out that Cuba’s arbitrary inclusion in the list of states sponsor of terrorism by the previous White House administration and ratified by the administration of President Joe Biden has intensified the persecution against Cuba.
