Cuba pursues full recovery of tourism

Havana, Nov 7 (Prensa Latina) Cuba is working in the search for new source markets and unprecedented spaces to achieve the full recovery of tourism without ignoring the complexities of the current context, said today the minister of that sector, Juan Carlos García.

In the midst of the current difficult situation, we need to receive four, five, seven million foreign visitors, which will bring greater prosperity to our people, the owner told Prensa Latina after participating in the official opening of the Canadian pavilion at the 39th Havana International Fair.

According to the official, the so-called smokeless industry in this Caribbean country has goals that are difficult to achieve; but, he stressed, the efforts do not stop so that the number of tourists increases.

In 2022 we receive 1.6 million foreign travelers, this year we proposed that there be 3.5 million, and we must end with 2.5 or 2.6 million, said García after remembering the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic at the national and global level.

Some analysts compare Cuba with other Caribbean nations in tourism results and we realize that the arguments are not fair, since no other country suffers the siege of the US blockade like ours, he explained.

We do not want to be pitied, it is not about that, nor do we have such a purpose; no one is really subjected like us to many actions aimed at damaging tourism in Cuba, he added.

On the other hand, García recognized his own deficiencies and regretted that sometimes some plans lack greater agility and delay achievements in favor of economic development.

However, we have all the conditions to succeed in any scenario that is given to us, the success of tourism in Cuba is guaranteed, he exalted after a comment on an international report that places his country with growth figures in this field greater than 100 percent in the next decade.
