Jordan warns over Gaza conflict expanding to the region

REY-JORDANIA
Riyadh, Nov 11 (Prensa Latina) King Abdullah II of Jordan warned today of the consequences the Israeli-Palestine war in Gaza would have if it expands to the region should the conflict not cease.

Speaking at the extraordinary joint Arab-Islamic summit, the dignitary reaffirmed that Jordan will continue to fulfill its duty to send humanitarian aid to the Palestinians by any means available.

The monarch emphasized that the Israeli aggression did not start a month ago, ‘but is a continuation of more than seven decades dominated by a fortress mentality with separation walls and violations of rights and holy sites, most of whose victims are innocent civilians’.

He indicated that the attacks on mosques, churches and hospitals; the killing of doctors and humanitarian workers; even children, the elderly and women, seek to make Gaza an uninhabitable place.

The injustice inflicted on our Palestinian brothers and sisters reflects the failure of the international community to guarantee their rights to dignity, self-determination and the establishment of their independent state on the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, he said.

Incidentally, he called it unacceptable to prohibit the delivery of food, medicine, water and electricity to the people in Gaza, while calling on the world to condemn Israeli crimes.

On this issue, he called for working collectively to build a political alliance to stop the war and displacement immediately, and launch a serious peace process in the Middle East.

“We cannot allow our just and legitimate cause to become a source of fomenting conflict between religions, the world will pay the price for not resolving the Palestinian issue,” he stressed.

Presidents, prime ministers and leaders of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation decided to hold an extraordinary joint summit here in connection with the dangerous and unprecedented events witnessed in Gaza and the Palestinian territories.
