Honduras reports decrease in homicides

Policia-Honduras
Tegucigalpa, Nov 18 (Prensa Latina) Honduras has reported significant progress in the fight against violence, so the country shows a decrease in homicides this year, police sources reported.

According to Security Minister Gustavo Sánchez, 2023 will end with a six-percent reduction. He noted that a ten-point reduction will be reported in two consecutive years.

A television report stated that authorities are working on three leading fronts to fight violence: the community, common crime, and the fight and control of organized crime.

The document pointed out that the highest number of homicides was reported in the departments of Cortés with 629, Francisco Morazán (529), Olancho (355), Yoro (314), Colón (244), and Comayagua (236), regions that recorded 63 percent of violent deaths.

Honduras declared a state of emergency, and a government strategy has been implemented for nearly a year to reduce violence.
