Cuba develops activities previous participation in COP28

Dubai, Nov 29 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban delegation to the 28th Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) is developing today several activities prior to the start, tomorrow, of the event.

The Cuban delegation is completing details in the national stand at the Expo City in Dubai, where it will show some of the purposes and results of the implementation of the State Plan for the fight against climate change, known as Task Life.

In this area, standing out are the efforts to increase energy efficiency, expand the use of renewable sources, and promote a less carbon-intensive economic development, endorsed in the Cuban Economic and Social Development Plan until 2030.

For that date, Cuba has set a goal of increasing electricity generation based on renewable sources to 24 percent, in addition to an increase in forest coverage to 33 percent, which should avoid the emission of 169.9 million tons of carbon dioxide (CO2).

The adoption and publication this year of the Law on the System of Natural Resources and the Environment is another important step that has become the main national regulation on climate change.
