The preparedness system of the operational and relief groups to face large-magnitude sudden events and the state policy to protect the population and territories against natural and man-made disasters will be the issues to discuss.

The role of the Red Cross in risk reduction management is also addressed at the meeting at the Havana-based Conference Center until Friday.

On Wednesday, Luis Carlos Guzmán, chief of the Cuban Fire Department, affirmed that ensuring compliance with safety and fire protection standards was a leading task in Cuba.

He said that “Cuba’s firefighters will redouble vigilance and control of compliance with safety measures. By 2024, we expect to work with new investments to avoid unfortunate events”.

The Interior Ministry’s first colonel expressed that they are exchanging experience with firefighters globally, addressing prevention, safety systems, and ways of acting to decrease accidents internationally,

Issues such as the National Platform for the Management of Disaster Risk Reduction and the comprehensive preparedness of society to achieve a culture and effective management in handling disasters are included during the Congress.
