The CartelON project of Cuba, under the auspices of the Orizzonti Hub, sponsored the exhibition. It invited designers and students of that discipline to participate in a competition where they had to design posters based on the work and personality of Calvino, whose centenary was celebrated on October 15.
This initiative gave way to the International Poster Competition “Italo Calvino. An Optimist in Centenary” and from which the exhibition of the finalists’ works was organized.
Designer Daylin Miranda won the prize for the best poster with one of her three proposals. Her poster will be printed in silkscreen as a limited edition and will be the cover of a book dedicated to the Italian intellectual.
During the events held in Cuba to commemorate Calvino’s 100th birthday, Italian Ambassador to Cuba, Roberto Vellano, recalled the importance of the commemoration in this country, where the famous storyteller was born and lived until he was two years old.
