The head of European diplomacy referred to that presumable position of the bloc at a special session of the UN Assembly to address the conflict in the Strip.
“I think that the situation we have already experienced will be reproduced where European nations will vote some in favor, others against and others will abstain,” Borrell admitted in reference to the existing differences among EU nations on the issue.
This, he said, is evidence of the different perspectives within the group, based on “historical circumstances, cultural and political heritages” on Israel and Palestine.
The meeting comes days after the United States vetoed a Security Council resolution calling for a cease-fire by Tel Aviv in the Strip.
