Hunter Biden defies GOP subpoena, defends business record

Washington, Dec 13 (Prensa Latina) Hunter Biden on Wednesday claimed that nothing links his father to his businesses as he lashed out at House Republicans for an impeachment attempt against President Joe Biden.

After weeks of back and forth and a threat to hold him in contempt of Congress, Hunter Biden showed up Wednesday at the Capitol to make a public statement rather than appear after being subpoenaed to speak behind closed doors.

“I´ve been target of relentless cries of the (Donald) Trump attack machine for six years. ‘Where’s Hunter,'” he said in a statement to reporters.

“Well, (…) I’m here,” Hunter stated and “let me say it as clearly as possible: my father was not financially involved in my business.”

President Biden´s son reiterated that he (Joe Biden) was not linked “neither as member of the board of directors of Burisma, in my association with a private Chinese businessman, nor as my investment at all or abroad,” in reference to a number of aspects cited in the investigation.

“There is no evidence to support allegations that my father was financially involved in my business, because that did not happen,” Hunter stressed.

By defying the House subpoena, Hunter risks being held in contempt of Congress by Republicans, which would add to the mounting legal issues he faces.

“We’re going to move forward with contempt proceedings…there’s a process we have to go through, but we plan to do that,” said House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan.

Democrats defended the choice of Hunter Biden. Jamie Raskin, ranking member of the Oversight Committee, attacked the inquiry itself on the grounds that GOPers have failed to identify wrongdoing by Joe Biden “in an aimless investigation.”

“All evidence proves, beyond a reasonable doubt, that President Joe Biden is not guilty of any impeachable offense that we can determine,” Raskin explained.

The presence of Biden’s son in the Capitol occurred just as Republicans brought to the floor the resolution to formally authorize the impeachment investigation, a vote on which is due this Wednesday.
