Shipping giants pause Red Sea traffic

Beirut, Dec 16 (Prensa Latina) The Danish giant Maersk and the German firm Hapag-Lloyd informed that they have temporarily suspended passage through the Red Sea strait, Al Mayadeen reported on Saturday. According to the news television channel, Maersk ordered its ships to stop passing through the Bab el Mandeb Strait after an incident that affected the Maersk Gibraltar ship and a container vessel.

Hapag-Lloyd said that it was halting Red Sea container ship traffic until Monday, after one of its vessels was attacked while sailing near the coast of Yemen.

Both companies’ decisions come after a warning by Yemeni Resistance that it will attack Israel-bound ships in the Red Sea in response to its aggression against the Gaza Strip.
