Cuba provides greater impetus to agriculture

Havana, Dec 21 (Prensa Latina) Cuba is working today to provide greater impetus to agriculture with measures for gradual and sustainable recovery in various sectors such as cattle raising.

By presenting the report of the results of the Highest Audit of the Ministry of Agriculture, in the Second Ordinary Session of the National Assembly of People’s Power- Parliament, in its 10th Legislature, the head of the Agriculture-food Commission of the National Assembly Ramon Osmani Aguilar detailed that the report compiles the main deficiencies and proposals for solutions in this sector.

After conducting an extensive work, which included visits to 15 provincial delegations and the exchange with over 3,000 producers and almost 11,000 people, the Commission pointed out that the rise in productive volumes, even though in some cases they are not competitive in terms of prices, constitutes a guarantee to achieve stability and sovereignty.

The report covers over four months of work and concludes that the economic and productive strategy designed has not gained the expected outcomes that have an impact on feeding the people and the economic development of the country, despite the actions taken by the Government and other institutions that are linked to agriculture.

In that regard, it was recommended, among other things, that the Ministry of Agriculture complete the transformation of the management model of the business system in order to sustainably soar agricultural production and create better conditions for the comprehensive development of the productive base.

Likewise, there was suggested to analyze regulations, procedures and certifications to be pursued for exports of agricultural goods and services, with the purpose of making them as flexible as possible, and study incentives for exporters that will allow sustained upturns in that direction.
