Bolivia to reinforce preventive measures ahead of fresh Covid-19 wave

La Paz, Dec 23 (Prensa Latina) A new Covid-19 outbreak that has already killed two people in Santa Cruz on Saturday forces the Bolivian Health Ministry to call for the population to get vaccinated without ignoring biosecurity measures.

“We have a significant amount of vaccine doses arriving last weeks and have been distributed. We have started with vaccination in all departments and we have to promote this tool to fight SARS-CoV-2”, the Health Minister María Renée Castro said.

Quoted in an institutional report, Castro insisted that children and adults should go to the vaccine centers to get immunized.

She informed that in the 50th epidemiological week there was a 61% surge in the number of cases, with the department of Cochabamba as epicenter.

Castro highly recommended that those aging over 12 years who have already received any Covid-19 vaccine doses may also receive their annual booster 12 months after last vaccine.

This modality is also valid for risk groups such as those over 60 years of age with or without underlying disease, healthcare personnel and pregnant women.

Castro described that immunosuppressed patients receive three doses: the first one as soon as they go to the vaccine center; the second one three weeks later, and the third one six months after the last one.

“It is necessary for all of us to take precautions to be safe as soon as possible,” the minister insisted.

“The first tool,” she added, “is vaccination; our second tool is always going to be the three M’s: hands, mask and meters away.
