Bolivia to commemorate 65th anniversary of Cuban Revolution

La Paz, Dec 31 (Prensa Latina) On the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution, the Bolivian television channel ATB will broadcast, on January 1, the documentary "Lo Primero que hay que salvar" (The First to Be Saved), by filmmaker Santiago Rony Feliú.

“The Barbarroja Video Library, the Cuban Solidarity Movement in La Paz and ATB want to massively highlight, on such a significant anniversary, the great achievements of the Cuban people since January 1, 1959,” Jorge Barrón, director of the Barbarroja Video Library, told Prensa Latina.

Barron, who is also the coordinator of the Bolivian Movement of Solidarity with Cuba in La Paz, described as “exemplary” what Cuba has achieved in the various expressions of culture.

“This is what Feliú’s documentary shows in nearly an hour of exclusive images of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, in interaction with his protagonists,” the director of Barbarroja told this news agency.

He thanked life for his chance reunion with Feliú at the Hotel Nacional in Havana on October 26, thanks to the first direct flight of Boliviana de Aviación from Santa Cruz to Havana, and the creator for the generosity of giving him a copy of his work. for the video library.

“Apart from its exceptional content, watching this documentary is a pleasure,” Barrón commented. “The soundtrack contains fragments of speeches by Fidel Castro and 23 unforgettable creations by outstanding composers and performers.”

He stressed with special admiration that the dance music by Juan Formell and César Pedroso is also present, and Alberto Vera in the voice of the great Omara Portuondo.

When referring to 65 years of the Revolution founded by a generation that is synthesized in the figure of Fidel Castro, Barrón insisted that education and culture are its most important instruments to resist more than six decades of strengthened economic, commercial and financial blockade by the United States.

He recalled that pro-independence hero José Martí (1853-1895) said that it was necessary to be cultured to be free, and that condition allowed the Cuban people to face all types of aggression from their neighboring empire victoriously.

“Culture is Cuba’s shield and sword against imperialist aggression at all levels,” he said, “mainly against the multimillion-dollar campaigns of its hegemonic media, which distort the reality of our people in the Americas, the Caribbean and the world to submit to ignorance and injustice.”

When thanking the screening of the documentary on Monday at 10:30 pm, Bolivia time, on the channel’s programming and on its social networks, Barrón reiterated the importance of solidarity with the Cuban people.

“We call on the international community to make every possible effort to end to the criminal economic, commercial and financial blockade by the United States against a people who, for more than six decades, have heroically resisted,” he concluded.
