Two days to challenge DRC election results

Kinshasa, Jan 1 (Prensa Latina) Radio Okapi reported today, that those who wish to challenge the provisional results of the presidential elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have two days to appeal to the Constitutional Court, .

The National Independent Electoral Commission (CENI) established January 2 and 3 as the dates for appealing to this instance, in case of disagreement with the announcement made the day before of the triumph of the current president Felix Tshisekedi with 73.34 percent of the votes.

Once this term has elapsed, any appeal against the results of the elections will be null , said the electoral authority.

The Constitutional Court has seven days, from January 5 until the closing of January 11, to deal with the files presented. The definitive results are expected to be published on January 12.

If no one appeals to this body, it should announce the final results within two days of the expiration of the deadline, which is January 5.

Several opposition candidates such as Théodore Ngoy and Martin Fayulu have called the presidential elections of December 20 in the DRC a farce, and urged the population to protest and demand new elections.

However, other social actors and international observation missions maintain the call to use legal resources to protest, in addition to asking for calm and not to encourage violence.
