Argentine deputies analyze package of laws

Argentina-Diputados
Buenos Aires, Jan 9 (Prensa Latina) Argentine deputies are analyzing a package of laws that sets forth the emergency economy of pension, security, defense, tariff, energy, health, administrative and social issues up until December 31st, 2025.

The bill, called Bases and Starting Points for the Freedom of Argentines, indicates that the Executive Branch may extend the emergency period for two years at the most, and provides for the privatization of state companies and societies, among which are the Argentine Airlines, Water and Sanitation, the Bank of the Nation, the Currency House, the Official Post Office, the Air Navigation Company, the Energy Company, Railways, Radio and Television, the Télam news agency and Fiscal Oil Fields companies.

It also eliminates primary, open, simultaneous and mandatory elections; allows renegotiating or terminating public administration contracts; creates a new regime for the exceptional regularization of tax, customs and social security obligations; establishes that “those who direct, organize or coordinate a meeting or demonstration that prevents, hinders or hinders circulation or public or private transportation or that causes injuries to people or damage to property will be punished with imprisonment of two to five years, whether they are or not present”.

The package of laws under the deputies’ analysis, includes the suspension of the system to increase retirement assets every three months, and indicates that the Executive will establish an automatic adjustment formula.

According to the proposed agenda, starting at 14:00, local time, around one hundred members of the Lower House of Congress will participate in a joint meeting of the committees of General Legislation, Constitutional Affairs and Budget and Finance.

In a dispatch, the deputies of the Unión por la Patria alliance demanded the presence of the nine ministers of the Government of La Libertad Avanza in the debates, and criticized the possible remote participation of those involved. The package of laws “comprises more than 880 articles with more than 25 fields of analysis. Arbitrarily, in the Chamber of Deputies, three commissions were turned over. We request that all the stakeholders attend in person. There are no excuses,” the document adds.
