Pandemic hindered Mexico’s public decentralization

Mexico City, 11 in (Prensa Latina) Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said on Thursday that Covid-19 pandemic hindered him from fulfilling his commitment to decentralize the federal public administration.

In the morning at the National Palace, AMLO indicated this process is important, and it is only materialized in the customs system, the transfer of part of the Secretariat of Energy to Tabasco; that of Culture in Tlaxcala; and that offices of the National Water Commission (Conagua) were installed in Veracruz.

We were talking about the 100 commitments, I strongly believe we have already fulfilled 98 of them, but we have also fulfilled other commitments that were not established’, AMLO said.

One of those pending, he assured, is decentralization.

We were affected by the pandemic, as in other cases, and it was not possible to do so’.

The President considered the decentralization process as relevant, although he acknowledged that conditions must be generated for workers, since most of them need to have facilities for their homes, children’s schools, among other situations that imply a change of residence entity.

It is a process that has to be achieved, but it is very important to decentralize.
