Operation Truth in Havana, two-way messages

Washington, Jan 22 (Prensa Latina) Congratulations Prensa Latina (PL) for all your years of being one of the most significant journalistic voices bringing unfiltered news to the whole world, according to U.S. activist and friend of Cuba Rosemarie Mealy.

“PL is so necessary!” said Mealy -who also serves as journalist, university professor and law graduate- in a message on the occasion of the New Operation Truth International Conference, organized by Prensa Latina. The majestic event gathers representatives from some 30 countries, including the United States.

PL’s devoted journalists and workers “have been a huge inspiration for many of us, particularly in the United States, who join in our works to break the news blockade imposed on Cuba and which you continue to impose on your people for over 60 years,” Mealy added.

As news technology makes headway, contrary to what the corporate media in the West do to filter disinformation, PL is a beacon that defies and breaks the evil designs of lies with alternative and reliable sources, Mealy stressed.

From Havana, meanwhile, some of U.S. aides commented to Mealy their personal impressions.

“What a surprise and excitement to see the Cuban President!” wrote journalist David Montgomery while referring to the attendance of Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel at the opening ceremony of the meeting on Sunday.

“Everything was excellent, so much passion, meeting new friends”, added the reporter.

For Dr. Amín Cruz, attending this New Operation Truth Conference has been the chance of meeting Cuba again more than four decades after his first visit paid to the country and also an opportunity to recognize Prensa Latina´s work.

Back in January 1959, the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro called the world’s largest press conference in Havana in order to condemn early on the hostile news campaigns.

Over 400 foreign journalists witnessed first-hand in that Operation Truth the reality of the newly-formed Cuban revolutionary process, which had been the object of continuous smear campaigns and destabilization attempts from the United States since its inception.

Six and a half decades later, colleagues and media executives gathered in Havana for this New Operation Truth in the era of fake news and when Cuba continues to suffer the strongest external maneuvers from Washington against its social project.
