Last week, the presidents of the Legislative Assembly, Rodrigo Arias, and of the Judiciary, Orlando Aguirre, announced to the Executive what the new bills consist of, and the route to follow for their swift approval in the Legislative Assembly.

President Rodrigo Chaves welcomed the progress and expressed: “Progress was made in reformulating laws in accordance with the times the country is experiencing and giving tools to the judiciary and the prosecutor’s office to be able to stop this situation”.

Supporting these reformulations, Arias highlighted the joint work, in which they managed to build a State policy on security, which restores peace of mind to the Costa Rican family.

For the president of the Supreme Court of Justice, Orlando Aguirre, it has been possible to build a tool that seeks to improve the actions of the Public Ministry and the Judicial Police, for more efficiency in the fight against insecurity.

One of the bills consists of revoking the Costa Rican nationality of those foreigners who commit serious crimes such as drug trafficking and organized crime, and could even be extradited.

Another of the new initiatives reformulate the provisions, regarding preventive detention, so that those individuals who commit dangerous crimes remain in prison.

Added to these, among the most important, is a bill to tackle contracting children as killers and to dismantle organizations that recruit minors, plus, reforms on the law on weapons and explosives, communications tapping, electronic monitoring and small loans.
