Group of Cuban doctors returns after restoring hope in Haiti

Port-au-Prince, January 31 (Prensa Latina) Members of the Cuban Medical Brigade in Haiti returned to their country today after taking care of the health of inhabitants of this nation that they consider a sister, and restoring hope to the victims of oblivion.

We have lived with this people in diverse and complex circumstances, nuanced by a difficult economic, political and social scenario, said dentist Iliana Saborit at the farewell ceremony.

We continue to save lives amid security problems, fuel shortages and natural disasters, she pointed out.

Here we treated dissimilar health problems, and Haitians found in our hands the encouragement, hope and tenderness necessary to bring a smile to the most suffering, the most helpless and all those who are victims of oblivion due to poverty, the specialist stressed.

It is gratifying to save many people in this world and raise the quality of life of a people, she expressed.

The medical personnel of Cuba who go to far away places to save lives, putting their own at risk, are the greatest example of solidarity that human beings can show, said the dentist.

“We return to Cuba with the satisfaction of having fulfilled our duty and having done good,” said the specialist.

For his part, the head of the Cuban Medical Mission in Haiti, Efrén Acosta, highlighted the value of doctors and nurses in this brother country.

At the headquarters of the National Coordination of the Medical Brigade, Acosta also praised the work of the support staff, especially in the areas of economics and information technology, since their efficient management allowed the good internal functioning of the health representation in the Caribbean nation.

Many of those present displayed all their creative abilities, knowledge and worked to make the Cuban Medical Mission in Haiti shine.

Now we are going for more, because there is still much to do, Acosta stressed before the members of the brigade who completed their work, among them, specialists in pediatrics, gynecology, stomatology and nursing.

He added that nothing stopped Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, he demonstrated it in Cinco Palmas, and we will not stop in our efforts either, now aimed at developing teaching in this country so that they have their own doctors.

Those who return, feel that they fulfilled the great duty of making the dreams of the historical leader of the Revolution come true, think that in Cuba they are very much needed and that the country views them proudly, he said.

This was his assault on the Moncada barracks, his Sierra Maestra, his Playa Girón, and that is why there are a thousand reasons to continue loving Cuba and the Revolution, Acosta stated.
