Taliban rejects reports of corruption in Afghanistan

Kabul, Feb 1 (Prensa Latina) The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (Taliban government) rejected reports that corruption has increased in the country.

The fact that Afghanistan has fallen several places in the Corruption Perception Index (CPI) does not mean that corruption levels have increased in the nation, the spokesman for the Islamic Emirate, Zabihullah Mujahid, said.

The statements come after the release of a report revealing that this nation finished in the 162nd place among 180 states included in the CPI in 2023, a drop of 12 places compared to the previous year.

Mujahid asserted that Afghanistan is now corruption-free and that if the Corruption Perceptions Index research were to be conducted closely on the national territory, the country would rank first.

According to the report, Afghanistan scored 20 out of 100 in the new index. The Islamic Emirate assured that fighting corruption is one of the most important principles of the current government in the nation.
