Maldivian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sheryna Abdul Samad and Chinese Ambassador Wang Lixin chaired both nations’ delegations; and held in Malé the 5th edition of the Joint Meeting Mechanism to Deal with the Issue of Safety of Chinese Tourists in the Maldives.
The meeting monitored the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two governments during President Xi Jinping’s visit to the Maldives in September 2014.
China has become the third-largest tourist source of the Maldives, she noted.
Sheryna Abdul Samad emphasized his government’s commitment to improving and maintaining a safe and secure environment for all tourists, including those from China.
The Chinese ambassador, in turn, thanked the Maldivian Government for its coordination and cooperation in ensuring a safe and secure environment for Chinese tourists in the Maldives.
