Police to intervene in other neighborhoods in Montevideo

Montevideo, Feb 2 (Prensa Latina) The Ministry of the Interior is preparing to intervene in several neighborhoods of Montevideo, while a survey affirms today that insecurity is the main problem felt by Uruguayans.

The Minister of the Interior, Nicolas Martinelli, signed yesterday the order for police intervention in the Cerro and Cerro Norte neighborhoods.

These areas will be added to Villa Española, Marconi, Cruz de Carrasco, and the area of Boix and Merino, in Malvín Norte, where violent incidents, including homicides, have led to the deployment of the National Police.

Insecurity is an issue that is present in the presidential pre-candidates participating in next October’s electoral campaign.

President Luis Lacalle Pou said that there is progress against crime, although he acknowledged his dissatisfaction with the results of the government’s management in this matter.

Meanwhile, the Consulting Teams pollster published a survey in which 43 percent of the answers placed insecurity as the main problem of the country.
