As World Wetlands Day is being celebrated on Friday, experts warn this negative trend will continue as a result of rapid population growth, unsustainable production and consumption, technological development and climate change.
A broad definition of wetlands includes freshwater, marine and coastal ecosystems, such as lakes, rivers, subway aquifers, swamps, marshes, wet grasslands, peatlands, oases, estuaries, deltas, mudflats, mangroves and other coastal areas.
