Brazilian Supreme Court to conclude trial on coup plotting

Brasilia, Feb 9 (Prensa Latina) Brazil's Supreme Federal Court (STF) is to conclude today the trial against 12 other defendants for their alleged involvement in the coup acts of January 8, 2023 in this capital.

In these cases, STF Justice Alexandre de Moraes defended sentences ranging from 12 to 17 years in prison for the defendants.

So far, also magistrates Cristiano Zanin and Edson Fachin voted for the sanction, but with lesser punishments.

De Moraes gave his opinion this Friday in the sentencing against 15 others accused by the Attorney General’s Office of executing the anti-democratic episodes and proposed correctives ranging from 14 to 17 years in prison.

These files are being judged individually in the virtual plenary of the Supreme Court and the judges can enter their votes in the electronic system until February 20.

The defendants were denounced by the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) for the crimes of violent abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law, qualified damages, coup d’état, deterioration of declared patrimony and criminal association.
