Syria claims to have shot down two Israeli drones

Damascus, Feb 9 (Prensa Latina) The Syrian Defense Ministry announced today the destruction of two Israeli unmanned aerial vehicles near the capital.

Through a statement, the military agency explained that the two aerial devices came from the occupied Syrian Golan and were intercepted at 14:20 local time by the anti-aircraft defense artillery west of Damascus.

Residents here observed the interception of two air targets while the third hit Mezzeh airbase, less than a kilometer west of Damascus.

Last Wednesday, a similar missile strike on the city of Homs in central Syria killed nine civilians, in addition to causing significant material losses at the Public Services Department.

On the 2nd of this month, Tel Aviv fighters launched from the occupied Syrian Golan several shells, some of which were intercepted and others hit sites in the town of Sayyeda Zainab, located about 10 kilometers southeast of Damascus.

Israel constantly shells Syrian territory under the pretext of attacking pro-Iranian militias, while Damascus claims that these attacks constitute a violation of its sovereignty and international law.

The Foreign Ministry urged the UN Security Council to fulfill its responsibilities and put an end to these aggressions.
