Cuban President mourns death of revolutionary Felipe Guerra Matos

Havana, February 11 (Prensa Latina) The president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, today offered his condolences to family and friends of prominent revolutionary and promoter of national sports, Felipe Guerra Matos, who died the day before at the age of 98.

Through his account in Internet, he remembered that jsportsust days after the victory of the Revolution in 1959, leader Fidel Castro assigned Felipe Guerra the responsibility of directing the General Directorate of Sports (DGD).

From that moment on, the guerrilla captain, who was born in 1926 in Manzanillo, current eastern province of Granma, was summoned several times by Fidel, who always reserved time to draw up strategies in sports, despite many other obligations.

Guerrita had the titanic task of putting in order and launching the organizational, participatory and competitive framework of national sports, and simultaneously making the ideas and intentions of the Revolution a reality in this sphere, Jit recalls.

His work is in every medal, in every performance of Cuban sports, in every young man who proudly enjoyed the national anthem, on a podium, or simply as part of a delegation, concludes the sports media.
