Rain danger alert issued for 12 states and Federal District of Brazil

Brasilia, Feb 19 (Prensa Latina) The National Institute of Meteorology (INMET) issued an orange danger alert from this Sunday until today for heavy rains and strong winds in 12 states and the Federal District (DF) of Brazil.

The orange warning means that temperatures five degrees Celsius above average will be recorded for three to five days.

For rainfall warning, it indicates a volume higher than 30 millimeters and winds will exceed 60 kilometers per hour.

According to INMET, there is a risk of power outage, falling tree branches and flooding. The storm warning was issued for the states of Amazonas, Pará, Mato Grosso, Bahia, Goiás, Minas Gerais, Ceará, Espírito Santo, Maranhão, Mato Grosso do Sul, Pernambuco, Piauí and DF.

The weather forecast for Brasilia this Monday is for heavy clouds with showers and thunderstorms in isolated areas.

The temperature in the federal capital should be between 19 and 26 degrees Celsius.

Mato Grosso do Sul, the extreme south of Goiás, the Mining Triangle, and the municipality of São José do Rio Preto, in São Paulo, are under storm alert.

The states of Pernambuco, Alagoas, Paraíba and Rio Grande do Norte are under potential rain danger.

A deluge that fell on the capital of São Paulo caused the Emergency Management Center to activate the state of attention to floods.

The information is valid for all regions due to the intensity of the storm.

“The warming in combination with the sea breeze, generate instabilities that can have up to strong intensity. It is raining heavily and with the potential for hail in Osasco, Barueri and Santana de Parnaíba, all municipalities west of the capital,” the mayor’s office reported.

Last Friday, the Brazilian Navy issued an alert on the possibility of the formation of a subtropical cyclone in the south of Brazil.

Such a phenomenon may increase instability in the weather and cause expressive downpours, especially on the coast of the southern territorial divisions Santa Catarina and Paraná.
