Lebanon responds to Israel’s threats at the UN

Beirut, Feb 21 (Prensa Latina) Lebanon responded on Wednesday to Israel's threats to implement by force Resolution 1701 adopted by the United Nations Security Council in August 2006.

In a communiqué released here by the Foreign Ministry, the Lebanese mission charged that Israel’s land, sea and air violations against national sovereignty exceeded 30,000 since 2006 and are documented by the Security Council.

At the same time, he emphasized that Israel’s threats continue, including what its representative said, which shows the intention to widen the scope of the war and seek a pretext to launch an aggression against Lebanon.

In this regard, he explained that Israeli forces daily bomb villages in the south of the country, where dozens of civilians have been killed and the displacement of thousands of citizens.

He stressed that the raids and the use of internationally banned white phosphorus shells destroyed more than 100,000 olive trees.

On this point, he expressed Lebanon’s full commitment to negotiating and seeking peaceful solutions that preserve its legitimate rights through a comprehensive and balanced implementation of the provisions of Resolution 1701.

Incidentally, he renewed the call to the United Nations and the Security Council to compel Israel to stop its attacks and violations of national sovereignty and to adhere fully to Resolution 1701 and withdraw from the occupied Lebanese territories.
