Uruguayan authority recognizes increase in violence

Alvaro-Delgado-2-768x502-1
Montevideo, Feb 26 (Prensa Latina) The former Secretary of the Presidency and presidential candidate of the ruling National Party, Álvaro Delgado, recognized the increase in violence in Uruguayan society.

“We are all more violent, in a more violent society,” said Delgado at a campaign event in the capital in which he commented on the case of a citizen who went to pick up his daughters at a dance and was murdered at the door of the premises.

Regarding citizen insecurity, he was dissatisfied with the statistics that speak of improvements and promised to wage war on crime and criminal organizations if he wins the elections scheduled for next October.

He described firm repression of criminal groups as inevitable, although it goes hand in hand with reintegration to prevent those who leave prison from reoffending.

“People should Know that security will be at the top of the priorities of our government program, if we have to govern,” he told residents of the Colón neighborhood, and proposed expanding the Republican Guard, a body that brings together the special forces of the National Police.

“We are going to create more bases in the interior of the country and we will also work in favor of voting on night raids as an instrument of support for the Police and Justice,” he said.

Delgado outlined the formation of a security cabinet formed by several ministries, on an issue that is of greatest citizens concern, according to latest surveys.
