Buenos Aires, Mar 4 (Prensa Latina) Teachers' unions belonging to the General Confederation of Labor of Argentina will hold a national strike to demand better salaries and also for Government financing and support to the educational sector.

The Argentine Teachers Union (UDA), the Technical Education Teachers Association, the Private Teachers Union, and the Confederation of Educators will thus express their rejection of the decisions of Javier Milei’s Executive to eliminate funds targeted to the sector and to refuse to salaries increase in a context marked by a strong adjustment and high inflation.

“We hold the Government responsible for the measures we are taking. We are going back to the 1990s. Today there are no two provinces that pay the same salary”, the general secretary of the UDA, Sergio Romero, affirmed in a press conference.

He also accused the country’s leadership of not taking responsibility for the situation of the educational system and not attending to the teacher’s demands.

This is the beginning of a plan of struggle that will be extended if there is no response from the government, he said.

On February 26, the Confederation of Education Workers of Argentina held a strike and a rally to reject Milei’s policies.

Its members expressed their concern about the Executive’s decision to halt the National Teacher Incentive Fund, the Compensation Fund (for workers in the sector in provinces with few resources), the fund for school canteens, and the funds allocated to education.
