As previously announced by the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy, the price of both fuel grades (93 and 95 octane) rose on Wednesday by 1.21 rand per liter (about six cents).

Diesel, on the other hand, rose between 1.06 rand (500 ppm) and 1.19 rand (50 ppm) (five to six cents).

Thus, a liter of 95 unleaded gasoline costs 23.73 rand in the coastal areas of the country (1.24 dollars) and 24.45 rand in the inner regions (1.28 dollars).

On the other hand, the wholesale price of 50 ppm diesel increased to 21.91 rand per liter on the coast (1.15 dollars), and 22.62 rand in the interior (1.18 dollars).

This month’s fuel price increases in South Africa are mainly due to higher international oil prices and the depreciation of the rand against the US dollar.

In addition, to the final monetary value calculated according to these two factors, the General Fuel Tax and the Road Accident Fund are added, which sum 6.13 rand (32 cents) to each liter of fuel in South Africa.
